Tell us about your family?
I have been happily married to Cody going on seven years (whoa)! We met at Arkansas Tech University while both obtaining our BSN. Cody graduated from UAMS in 2018 with his APRN and we quickly moved to Texarkana to be closer to our families. We welcomed our son, Fletcher, in September 2021 and life has not been the same since! I work PRN night shift on Labor and Delivery and keep Fletcher home with me on Mondays and Fridays. I am incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to work but have extra time home with him while he is still little! We also have two labradors, Chief and Champ, and could not imagine our home without the dog hair (okay - we could but we would miss them a lot).
Why is FIT4MOM important to you?
There are so many reasons but I will keep it as simple as possible. Being a new mom in a town that I did not grow up in is so hard because making mom friends is SO hard. F4M provided me with a community when I was in desperate need of it. Plus, Fletcher also gains friends and social skills from this community and that is everything to me.
What do you remember about your first FIT4MOM class?
I was so nervous for my first class because I had no clue how Fletcher would do! To my pleasant surprise it went smoothly and he loved laughing at me, eating his snacks, and the bubbles.
What are 3 of your favorite things?
Wine, coffee and high-waisted leggings.
What has being a mom taught you?
Being a mom has taught me that I can do more than I ever believed I could and that I married the right person who truly makes the best partner.
Advice for first time moms?
Day by day, mama. Those first few weeks (sometimes months) are chaotic but truly fly by. Do your best to soak up the coos and snuggles, but also don't stress if you don't enjoy every minute. I can personally vouch for those of us that did not enjoy every minute and I promise it gets better. The days keep moving forward and before you know it you have a toddler that giggles when you chase him, plays peek-a-boo, and blows you kisses. On the other side, your toddler also creates more chaos but gives you a goofy grin 10 minutes after the tantrum. So if you are struggling or do not see the light at the end of your tunnel yet - reach out to a friend, family member, doctor, or even me! Message me on social media and let's get coffee or go to a F4M class together. My second piece of advice is that you should not do it alone and you are NOT alone!
You have 4 hrs of FREE babysitting, what would you do with your time?
Go to Loca Luna and have a margarita with my husband and then go home and nap for the remaining time.
Favorite spot to eat in Texarkana?
Loca Luna. End of story.
What is a fun fact that many may not know about you?
I am a certified fitness instructor! I was teaching classes twice a week at a local women's only gym, Grit Fitness, but had to step back for a little while. I am hoping to start teaching again in the future!
If someone was thinking about attending a FIT4MOM class or joining, what would you tell them?
Just load up your kiddo and do it! Everyone in F4M understands where you are right now and we want to support you. Let us be your cheerleaders!!
Favorite thing to do as a family?
Fletcher is happiest when we are outdoors so any activity outside and we are in!
